From the most recent (12/4/08) episode of 30 Rock, "Reunion." Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) refuses to go to her high school reunion but her boss Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) convinces her. Tina Fey uses her own experience at Upper Darby Senior High School in Philadelphia to construct this episode, with this week's star guest Janel Maloney, (Donna from West Wing) who has a cameo. This is definitely not the funniest clip of the show, but has the now infamous line "I want to go to there," which is used later in the show. Note the chemistry between Baldwin and Fey and the quick wit and smart humor of the writers and director (including Fey) that proves 30 Rock is deserving of the record breaking 17 Emmy Nominations and the trifecta of winning Best Comedy, Best Lead Actor (Baldwin) and Best Lead Actress (Fey). I made this short for Saturday Night live. They saw my previous film DOUGLAS JOHNSON and paid for me to make this one. It was my first paying gig as writer/director. We actually filmed the White House by putting our Arriflex camera lens through the steel fence bars to get a clear view. I can't imagine that you could do that now! I could have used stock footage for this but that would have been expensive, so we just drove to D.C. and got the shot. We shot at the Ukranian Institute in NYC. I made the special table out of plywood, and we also made the small vases that you see on top of the fireplace mantle. David Gallaghly plays the zipper guy. He was excellent. Eric Schmitz was the cinematographer and he did a sterling job. We had fun re-creating the look of the footage that was shot in Congress.
